dc.description1. Patients with newly-confirmed CPE (NCPERLS): There were 31 patients in May, compared with 33 in April. There were 433 patients in total for 2017 versus 282 in 2016 2. Notification of patients with invasive CPE infection (Departments of Public Health): There was one invasive CPE infection notified in May, compared with two in April. There were 14 notifications in both 2017 and 2016 3. Creation of new CPE outbreak events (Departments of Public Health): In May, one new acute hospital CPE outbreak event was created, with one outbreak event created in April. There were 15 new CPE outbreaks created in 2017 versus five in 2016 4. Active/current CPE hospital outbreak events (HSE acute hospitals reporting to BIU): Data returned by 91% of hospitals, with seven reporting events in May [April = 94% returns & six reported events] 5. CPE screens and CPE detections (HSE acute hospitals reporting to BIU): Data returned by 98% of hospitals, with 13,317 CPE screens performed in May and 24 CPE detected overall, 21 from screening specimens [April = 98% returns; 11,468 screens; 37 CPE detected overall, 34 from screening specimens] 6. Inpatients with known CPE (HSE acute hospitals reporting to BIU): Data returned by 98% of hospitals. There were 141 inpatients of 26 hospitals with known CPE colonisation or infection in May [April = 98% returns; 141 known inpatients of 30 hospitals] 7. Known CPE inpatients not accommodated in an en suite single room/appropriate cohort area* for part of their admission (HSE acute hospitals reporting to BIU): Data returned by 94% of hospitals. In May, 10 inpatients of six hospitals were not accommodated in an en suite single room/appropriate cohort area for part of their admission [April = 98% returns; 18 inpatients of ten hospitals] 8. Total grams (g) of meropenem** issued by hospital pharmacies: (HSE acute hospitals reporting to BIU): Data returned by 38% of hospitals.
