| dc.description | Highfield Hospital is based on the northside of Dublin city and provided services for people with different mental health needs including acute, continuing and specialist mental health needs. The inspection of Highfield Hospital was unannounced and occurred over a four-day period from February 13th to February 16th 2024 inclusive. This report reflects the findings at the time of the inspection. During the 2023 inspection, two regulations were found to be non-compliant. These compliance issues did not reoccur in 2024, however, eight other regulations were deemed to be non-compliant. A high risk rating was applied to six of these regulations while the remaining two were assessed as low risk. Although, there was a reduction in overall compliance, the inspection team was encouraged by the responsive approach demonstrated by staff. Where issues were identified by the inspection team, approved centre staff took steps to manage the issue, where possible. Systems and processes for clinical governance were generally evident, however the regulatory non-compliances found during the inspection indicated deficits in the context of risk management and staff training. Areas of good practice observed over the course of the inspection included the provision of quality therapeutic programmes and multi-disciplinary collaboration. The approved centre was clean, bright and spacious with a calm atmosphere throughout. Staff were observed treating residents with kindness, and respect for their privacy and dignity. Residents spoke warmly about the staff and the care they received. | en_US |
